‘Revisiting’ my Skincare Routine. Let’s go!!

It has been about 6 months since i last blogged about my skincare routine and because there are new additions in my skincare routine, i’ll like to share more about it.. 🙂

After going for regular facial (once every month) and religiously applying my skincare products, I’m happy with the condition of my skin.. It doesn’t clog so easily, is less oily and it is less sensitive.. I’m still suffering from jawline breakouts when approaching the time of the month but despite of this, I’m pretty contented with the improvements.. Currently still thinking of ways to remove the post-acne / pimples marks, recommendations anyone? 🙂

The photo below is taken in January with minimal make-up on (Tinted pimple cream, Mineral loose powder, blusher, eyeliner , eye-shadow and lip-gloss).. I don’t have to conceal much nowadays with my trusty MAC concealer as my skin looks so much clearer.. At a recent event, Joyce told me that my skin has shown a lot of improvements and I’m really pleased to hear that! 🙂

Step One: Cleansing

I’m still using the Babor Bi-Phase cleansing set which consists of HY-Ol and Phytoactive… I love the texture of the cleansing oil (not heavy nor oily) and together with Phytoactive, it cleanse my skin well and removes all make-up without drying my skin.. It also doesn’t sting my eyes when i use the cleansing oil + Phytoactive on my eyes! You can read more about the 2 products here

Step Two: Calming my skin with Cool Massage Roller

I have creased the use of the massage roller daily due to laziness.. haha! I’ll only use it when i have jawline breakouts as it will help to calm the ‘angry-ness’ down (My beautician also told me that acne will ‘soften’ heal faster if you massage it regularly).. You can read more about the roller here

Step Three: Cleansing and Toning of Skin

Babor’s Rose Toning Lotion has to be the best toner ever and i cannot live without it.. Not only it doesn’t contains alcohol, it smells heavenly as well! The toner is gentle on skin but yet it helps to remove remaining residues on my skin after cleansing.. After applying the toner, skin feels clean, soft and looks more supple!

You can read more about the toner here

Step Four: Serum on T-Zone and Problematic areas (NEW)

As part of my anti-aging routine, i have included the use of L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Laser Renewing Anti-Aging Serum to refine pores, wrinkles and to firm my skin… After using this, i realised that the skin on my T-zone (Especially my nose) seems more refined (lesser blackheads) and smoother…

On my jawline, i will apply a thin layer of Neogence’s Extremely Off-Heads Serum to purify my skin, remove dead skin cells and draw out impurities and white head.. With this product, it helps to sooth my skin and my pimples will heal faster.

You can read more L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Laser Renewing Anti-Aging Serum here and Neogence’s Extremely Off-Heads Serum here

** Do note that these 2 items are sponsored

Step Five: Moisturize and Hydrates! (NEW)

I have replaced Babor Pure Daily Purifying Cream with Babor Pure Select Purifying Anti-Aging Lotion as i want to incorporate more anti-aging products into my skincare regime. This lotion has anti-aging formula while it also helps to combat impurities at the same time.. Suitable for all skin type, this lotion will work around the clock to hydrate skin, reduce sebum production while improving elasticity and firming the skin tissue. It contains zinc salt, aloe vera, magnolia extract, rich starch and Enantia Chlorantha Bark extract to give radiant and youthful-looking complexion..

The lotion has a light and watery texture which gets absorbed into the skin fast without any sticky aftermath… Like the pump bottle as it makes application more hygiene… When compared to the purifying cream,  i find that it hydrates my skin better and it keeps my skin matt longer.. Like the purifying cream, it helps to treat my pimple and reduces sensitivity boils…

Step Six: Zap those spots away and cover up!

During the day, i will use Babor Tinted Pimple Cream on those occasional spots to conceal and to treat it! At night, i will use LMS Spotlights 24 to speed up the healing process of my pimples and to reduce the inflammation. You can read more about the LMS spotslights and Tinted Pimple Cream here

Step Seven: Sunblock to protect your skin during the day (NEW)

Previously, i was sponsored with Hada labo’s UV moist emulsion which i have finished using… Recommended it to one of my gf and we both agreed that texture is light and non-greasy.. However, i did not repurchase it as i have always love to explore other sunblock… Currently using Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence which is the top-selling sunscreen in Japan.. Thanks to Biore and EK Media for sending me this gem!

Decided to review the Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence because the product looks very promising as it stated to have high SPF protection coverage and yet it feels nothing on skin after application.

The secret behind lies with the Biore breakthrough technology whereby the UV ingredients are contained within the Aqua Micro Capsule to provide SPF50/PA+++ protection while keeping skin cool and refreshed. As such, this water rich UV essence stays light and weightless on skin when applied on.. Unlike regular sunscreens, it won’t leave behind a heavy and greasy after feel and it gets absorbed instantly…

You can say that this UV essence has 2-in-1 benefits as it provide protection against harmful UV rays and at the same time it hydrates the skin..

Benefit 1: It has good and long-lasting High SPF and PA+++ protection against skin-aging UVA rays and skin-burning UVB rays..

Benefit 2: It contains hyaluronic acid and Citrus extract (Extract of orange, grapefruit and lemon) to keep skin hydrated, soft and healthy.

Despite being a sunscreen with high SPF, texture is light and refreshing (like water). Upon skin contact, the unique aqua micro capsule will release moisture, leaving your skin protected, refreshed and hydrated. Suitable for all skin types, including sensitive ones as formula is gentle and allergy tested.

The ingredient list if anyone is interested in it.. Because it contains fruit extract, the UV essence has a mild citrus fruity scent!

The UV essence has white gel-based texture and upon spreading it, the UV essence turns watery.. If you look at the picture below carefully, you can actually see tiny water droplets.. It gets absorbed into my skin very fast without any form of stickiness  / oiliness.

No shiny screen / white cast after application!

Purposely applied the UV essence on only one side of my face so that you can see whether if any white cast is left behind..

Boo! I hate my post pimple marks!

But NO! You cannot see any! Because of the watery texture upon skin’s contact, it just feels as if i am applying moisturizer instead of sun-screen.. Although this UV essence is hydrating, do remember to guard your skin with moisturizer before applying sunscreen… I am able to spread the UV essence easily and it gets absorbed into my skin very fast without leaving behind a heavy feeling (which many of the regular sunscreens will).. Another plus point will be that it leaves my skin matt and refreshed without weighting it down.. The UV essence has a slight citrus scent and a cooling sensation when applying it which serves as a quick perk me up in the morning, i like!! 🙂

Will recommend this if you are looking for a sunscreen with high SPF but yet feels like nothing on skin… The UV essence is only available in one size (50ml) and retailing @ $18.90 at selected supermarkets, hypermarkets and pharmacies.

That’s all about my daily skincare routine and hope you have enjoy reading it.. Will be sharing more on my twice weekly ‘masking’ routine  so do stay tune!

Have a great Thursday everyone!

Combating Acne with Effective Skincare Routine

Alright! Here’s the Part 2 entry on how i’m combating my acne after stopping medication..
Besides facial (once every 3 weeks), i also went on a new daily skincare routine to care for my skin…

Step One: Cleansing

This is the MOST important step of all and it is important to use effective products that will remove all dust, excessive sebum, impurities and make-up which contributes to skin problems (like acne and sensitivity).. In addition, you will need a perfectly cleanse skin in order to prep it for your other skincare products (So that whatever you applied on will be fully absorbed and penetrated by the skin).. So if you think that your serum, moisturizer or any expensive skincare products aren’t working well, maybe you should take a step back and look at your basis cleansing routine.. If your pores are congested with impurities and residues, how can essence / nutrients be able to penetrate into the skin well?

For effective cleansing, i’m currently using Babor Bi-Phase cleansing set which consists of HY-Ol and Phytoactive… The Bi-Phase cleansing will allow you to enjoy clear skin by deep cleansing it so that valuable ingredients of your skincare products will absorbed and processed effectively.

Phase One (HY-OL) – Suitable for all skin types and free of preservatives, this cleansing oil is derived exclusively by Babor thus making it unique in the cosmetics market.. This hydrophilic cleansing oil is combined with the natural cleansing powers of water and oil to bring about deep-action cleansing abilities.. It is based on pure natural oil and has to be used in conjunction with the Phytoactive (for specific skin type) to remove both oil and water soluble impurities gently yet thoroughly.

Phase Two (Phytoactive) – As i have combination and sensitive skin, i’m alternating between Phytoactive sensitive / Combination to treat different skin concerns.  When my skin shows signs of redness, i will use sensitive as it calm and relax the skin with herbal essences of lime blossom, hopes and balm mints. When i have some breakouts on my jawlines due to hormones, i will use combination to refine and balance the skin with herbal essences of sage, witch Hazel and Azulene.

Directions to use the Bi-phase cleansing set:I will use 1 pump of HY-OL on dry hands and massage it over my dry skin… Make sure that you ‘dislodge’ all impurities and make-up using circular motions (try to focus more on areas where you are prone to skin problems and for me it will be the jawline).. After which, use 1 pump of Phytoactive and smooth it over the skin… Next, massage in with moistened fingertips until milk emulsion is formed.. To make sure that my skin will be cleansed properly, i’ll wet my fingertips a total of 3 times and repeat the massaging action 3 times… Once done, i will rinse my skin clean with plenty of lukewarm water..

Till date, my experience with the Babor Bi-Phase cleansing set is a good one and it has changed my perspective towards cleansing oil… This is the only cleansing oil which isn’t too greasy and it is able to remove all grimes on my skin very well.. Do you know that when i massage it across my skin, i can feel oil-clogs coming out from my pores and after-which it will drop out onto the fingertips (really amazing!)… After washing off the emulsified Hy-OL and Phytoactive, my skin feels refreshed and no tightness / redness is experienced… In return, my skin feels cleans and soft to the touch… After using for sometime, my clogged pores reduces and my skin seems so much brighter… Guess i’ll be sticking to this cleansing set for a long period of time 🙂

HY-OL retails at $69 (200ml) and Phytoactive retails at $50 (100ml) at My Cozy Room.

Step Two: Calming my skin with Cool Massage Roller

After cleansing my skin, i’ll calm my sensitive skin down with this roller… You have to store this in your fridge in order to chill the gel / water inside… The roller will act as a form of cold therapy to calm down the irritations on my face due skin sensitivity… Because i have sensitive skin, my skin will itch sometimes and suffer from ‘sensitivity boils’.. After using this on a daily basis, i do observe that my skin seems calmer and it soothe itchiness… I’ll use it more on my jawline as it reduces the redness of my jawline pimples / acne.  This roller also acts as a form of eye messenger and it will relieve tired eyes instantly..

The cool massage roller retails at about SGD$20 with shipping and you can order it from Qoo10 (G-market)

Step Three: Cleansing and Toning of Skin

Because i have sensitive skin, i cannot use toner that contains alcohol as it will worsen the sensitivity (Which will lead to redness and breakouts).. Celine from My Cozy Room has recommended me the Rose Toning Lotion to refresh, clarify and calm my skin after cleansing.. Suitable for all skin types (even for sensitive skin), the Babor’s Rose Toning Lotion is alcohol-free and it helps to cleanse pores deep down. With nourishing essence of roses, the rose toning lotion helps to refresh, calm, relax and re-balance the skin’s surface with its moisturizing properties.

This toner has a delicate rose scent which i absolutely adore and it is one of the milder toner that i have used.. Because it is mild, it will calm my skin and refreshes it without any drying effect. Will recommend you to use two pumps on a cotton pad as it will also help remove any remaining residues on skin after cleansing.. Because it has hydrating effects as well, skin feels moisturized and there’s no tightness on skin.

Natural Rose Oil, Allantoin, Bisabolol, Panthenol, Water (aqua), Panthenol, Rosa Damascena Flower Distillate, Bisabolol, Allantoin, Glycerin, Pantolactone, Citric Acid, Tromethamine, Disodium EDTA, Benzophenone-4, PPG-26-buteth-26, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Citronellol, Geraniol, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Potassium Sorbate, Red 40 (CI 16035)
Rose Toning Lotion retails at $69 (200ml) at My Cozy Room
Step Four: Pure Daily Purifying Cream (50ml)

This Pure Daily Purifying Cream is targeted towards people with troubled skin as it helps to reduce skin impurities. This cream has a light consistency and it contains many effective active ingredients to address sensitive / acne prone skin.
1) Alpine stem cells: DNA protection, preventative protection against light-induced skin aging.
2) OsmoTec: Catalyst to optimizes the processing of active ingredients in the cells.
3) Phytosphingosine, farnesol: Prevents the growth of bacteria.
4) Hamamelis extract: Astringent effect.
5) Horsetail extract: Astringent effect and promotes fast healing of wound.
6) Yeast, vitamin B and niacinamide: Regulates the sebum balance.
7) Vitamin E: Protects against free radicals.
8) Macadamia nut oil, jojoba oil: Contribute to soft and supple skin.
9) Panthenol, allantoin: Moisturizing and calming effect.
The cream has a creamy gel base and it has a light texture which can be absorbed fast into the skin… The cream smells of Tea tree oil and i love the fact that it moisturizes and treats my pimples.. Despite the fact that it helps to control pimples breakout, it is not harsh on skin so it did not cause my skin sensitivity to worsen. Ever since i started using this, my complexion has became more even, less oily and my spots heal faster.. I’m someone who will suffer from bad purging after facial but after since i use this cream, the breakout became history as it kills bacteria and balances the skin.

Pure Daily Purifying cream retails at $89 (200ml) at My Cozy Room

Step Five: Sunblock to protect your skin during the day

During day time, i’ll skip the PURE daily purifying cream and apply Sun block instead.. Because i have pores which will be congested very easily, i have to keep the amount of skincare products on my face to bare minimum to reduce skin from clogging… Previously, i was sponsored with Hada labo’s UV moist emulsion and i really love the light and non-greasy texture (Even my fiance has said so)..

Step Six: Zap those spots away and cover up!

For pimples on my face, i will use LMS Spotlights 24 to speed up the healing process and to reduce the redness.. So far, i have not come across a good pimple cream which will heal spots as fast as LMS Spotlights.. I find that using it twice a day is good enough to reduce inflammation so that the acne / pimples heals faster.

I have also stopped using concealer as Celine told me that it will clog my pores badly.. Instead, i’m using Babor Tinted Purifier cream (2 in 1 pimple cream) which will conceal pimples while it treats blemishes. It is formulated with plantain and mahonia extract plus tea tree oil to stop bacterial growth and absorb excess oil. Coverage of the tinted cream is good as it is able to cover up the redness of my spots.. In addition, it will draws the oil out from the pimples fast so as to speed up the healing process.. Since it contains pigments, it is not recommended to use it at night while you sleep…

Beside these, i’m also taking Royal Jelly as my friend told me that it improves her acne condition.. I’m still monitoring to see the results and will keep you updated.. That’s all for my simple daily skincare routine to keep acne away from my face…

Keep a lookout for my next post as i’ll be sharing more on ZA make-up products..

Till then, take care everyone! 🙂

(Review) Combating Acne with Facial @ My Cozy Room

After enjoying 8 months of clear skin with the aid of Accutane, acne / pimples have decided to attack with a vengance again!! Due to the nature of my problematic skin, i knew that this was coming but i can’t help but feel depressed…

Before i started the first course of Accutance, Dr Chua told me that results will vary from individual and on average people will stay acne-free for at least a year.. I’m one of the unlucky ones who suffers from a releaspe so soon.. Sigh!

Because of the horrible side effects, i have decided not to turn to medication to improve my skin condition.. Because of the medication, my skin also became very sensitive with red patches on many parts of my face.. Not only that, acne and bumps kept emerging on my skin and i tried to salvage it by switching to acne prevention skincare products but to no avail….

As you can see from the pictures below, i’m Ms ‘Dotty’ with an ‘abundance of pimples and acne’ on my face…

Because of the persistent breakouts, i have stopped using most of my base make-up (Except concealer) as my pores tend to clog very easily…  Although i knew that concealer will clog my pores, i needed something to cover up my imperfections in order to face the world… My skin condition took a turn for the worse after i came back from my vacation in Krabi and my friends have suggested facial to clear those imperfections…

After gathering some recommendation from fellow beauty bloggers (Vivian, Valerie and Melissa), i have decided to give to My Cozy Room a try.. My Cozy Room Boutique Spa is located at 56A Cairnhill Road (Behind Mount Elizabeth Hospital)..

Because the products are highly effective, Babor has won many beauty and spa awards world-wide..

Due to Babor’s expertise and years of research, many product lines which are suitable for different skin concerns are launched…
Its extensive product lines are of top notch quality and some ranges include:

1) Cleansing – HY-OL and Phytoactive, the natural and unique bi-phase cleanser for the all-important cleansing routine.

2) Beauty Fluids – Highly concentrated and quality Ampoules.

3) Basic care – Skincare for the young.

4) Pure – Removing imperfections and getting skin into the healthy state.

5) Pure Select – Targeting imperfections on more mature skin.

6) Babor Men – Skincare for the males who wants skin full of vitality.

7) Suncare system – Embrace the sun and your skin.

Because i have sensitive and acne prone skin, my anti-acne facial will be incorporated with products from the PURE range (To target my acne / pimples) and Beauty Fluid (Ampoule) to calm the sensitivity…

Facial is done in a cozy room and comfortable room ‘hidden’ on the upper floor with a lot of privacy.. Previously, i did facial at B.B (go figure the name) and i had to share the room with someone (Not a pleasant experience).. The facial will take approximately 2 hours and the procedure are as per follows:

1) The therapist (I’m alternating between Iris and Violet) will start off with the cleansing process with Babor HY-OL to remove all grimes / tinted pimple cream on my skin.

2) Depending on the sensitivity of my face, a layer of enzyme cream to remove dead skin cell will be applied and left under steam.. Once pores are opened, Iris / Violet will massage and cleanse the enzyme cream away..

3) Now comes the most hatred part which is extraction to decongest my pores… Due to the nature of my skin, i must say that Iris / Violent is really thoroughly with the extraction and normally a lot of impurities are extracted… I’m not going to deny the fact that extraction is painful as facial skin is highly sensitive.. All i can say that extraction is not as painful as compared to my previous facial experience as Iris / Violet will try to minimize the discomfort.

4) After an hour of extraction, high frequency machine will be used to kill bacteria on the skin’s surface.. During the process, you will experience a slight ting-ing sensation which i dislike.. =/

5) Next, ampoule will be applied and ‘icing’ will be done with a roller to soothe the skin.. I love this part the most as the cooling sensation will never fail to calm my skin down..

6) While the mask is being left on for 10-15 mins, Iris / Violet will pamper me with scalp, back and shoulder massage to loosen my tight muscle knots.. After the mask is cleaned off, Babor products (Normally the pure range) will be applied on.

My skin is very sensitive and any slight friction will leave it red (Even blotting my skin gently will result in red patches on my skin).. Therefore, facial will not be an exception as i will certainly get very red and swollen patches all over my face…

Although quite a fair bit of extraction was done By Iris / Violet and it took about an hour to extract the gunk from my pores; the state of my skin wasn’t as bad as i thought. Took this picture straight away facial and this is the first time i’m not looking like a walking swollen pig head…

The next day, there wasn’t much red patches on my skin and red marks were seen only on those big pimples.. With only one session, there’s so much visible results as my skin looks so much smoother and healthier! Because of this, i signed up a package with My Cozy Room on the spot 😡

Till date, i have gone for about 4 sessions and i’m pleased that my skin condition has improved vastly. Together with my new skincare routine with Babor products (I will share more on it in another post), my breakouts are more controlled and i’ll only get some minor breakouts when approaching the time of the month… Picture below is taken by Jones and i only had tinted pimple cream, eyeliner, mascara and blusher on my face… You can see that there is lesser angry looking acne and skin texture is much smoother…  Really happy with the state of my skin now as i don’t to rely on medication to maintain a healthier looking skin.. .
